The district is proud to announce that Nassau County District 18 Assemblywoman Taylor Darling has provided a grant of $250,000 which will be used to purchase new seating for the auditorium at Howard T. Herber Middle School.

Assemblywoman Darling made the announcement prior to a preview of the Malverne High School production of “Aida” that was performed in the auditorium for local senior citizens.

The seating upgrade is part of a full auditorium renovation that is slated to take place this summer and will be completed in time for the 2024/25 school year.

The Howard T. Herber Middle School auditorium is the heart of the Malverne arts and theatrical community with performances from all district schools taking place on the stage. With this makeover, Malverne will have a state-of-the-art facility to showcase the incredible wealth of talent that is being practiced and perfected in our schools every day.

As part of Read Across America Week, students at Downing enjoyed an extra special experience today as they were welcomed into Book Cafes that were created, decorated and staffed by our amazingly creative teachers.

Each of the three Book Cafes featured a variety of books for the K-2 students to explore and activity sheets for them to complete as they were served imaginary drinks and treats.

Kudos to the entire Downing team for always finding ways to make reading and learning fun for our students and creating amazing memories that will last a lifetime!
