In a tradition that began in 2023, the Malverne High School Legacy Award is an honor given to a group of exemplary students in the graduating class for that year.

The students are chosen by their teachers based on the characteristics identified by the district portrait of a graduate. Academics are not the focus of the award, but more to recognize the students have truly become part of the fabric of the Malverne community.

Using the Malverne Portrait of a Graduate as a guide, teachers nominate students for this honor bases on the following criteria:

  • Have attended Malverne Schools since kindergarten. (These students will receive preference)

  • Be a positive role model both in the classroom and on our fields, courts, stages and throughout the school community.

  • Reflect dedication and commitment to their academics and extracurricular activities and school events.

  • Model inclusivity, respect, and kindness.

  • Demonstrate resiliency.

  • Show care and concern for their fellow classmates.

Based on the size of that year's graduating class, 10-12 Legacy Award recipients will be honored each year.

Once students are selected from teacher recommendations, the students are asked to pick a teacher from each school who positively impacted their experience at Malverne and helped to make them who they are today. At the Legacy Dinner in May, each student is invited to speak about their experience and how these teachers helped them achieve their goals.
