Once Upon a Homecoming: a community united at Malverne High School

With a storybook theme and a whole lot of orange and blue, Malverne High School’s homecoming celebration brought students, staff, families, alumni and community members together on Oct. 24, for a day filled with school spirit, connection and Mule pride.

Under the theme “Once Upon a Homecoming… One Community. One School Spirit. One Malverne!” the festivities began with a spirited parade assembling at Whelan Park and making its way down Ocean Avenue to the homecoming field. Families and friends gathered to cheer on the Mules, setting the stage for a celebration that reflected the strong sense of community at the heart of Malverne. The fun continued with carnival-style activities, games and bounce houses, giving students and families plenty of opportunities to enjoy the festivities together.

Homecoming spirit extended well beyond Saturday. Malverne High School wrapped up spirit week with a lively pep rally on Friday afternoon, featuring enthusiastic cheers, student performances and the presentation of the Homecoming Court. Students from Howard T. Herber Middle School joined in the excitement, while members of the football and cheer teams visited Davison Avenue and Downing Intermediate to share the celebration with younger students and inspire the next generation of Mules.

The festivities culminated on the homecoming field as the Malverne Mules faced the North Shore Vikings in a spirited football matchup. At halftime, spectators enjoyed performances by Malverne’s talented marching band and Winter Guard. Although the Mules fell to the Vikings, 21-14, the final score could not diminish the enthusiasm and pride on display throughout the day.

From the parade and family-friendly festivities to the schoolwide celebrations, Malverne’s homecoming was a reminder that Mule Pride is about more than a game. It is about bringing generations together, celebrating students and their accomplishments, and strengthening the bonds that make Malverne one community, united by one school spirit.
